"A native of North America it is best grown as an annual in cold or damp gardens or overwintered in a greenhouse. It produces tall spikes of purple flowers that are loved by butterflies. The leaves and flowers have a minty aniseed flavour that makes a refreshing tea It was planted by bee keepers in America in the 1870's to give their honey a slight aniseed flavour. Native Americans made it into a tea and used it as sweetener. It increases perspiration and relieves bronchial catarrh. ."
