A hardy evergreen tree that can grow up to heights of thirty foot. It was once the symbol of wisdom and glory and worn as wreaths on the heads of leaders in Rome and Greece. It is used fresh or dried in bouquet garni, soups, stews and desserts. The oil is used commercially to flavour condiments and meat products. Leaves will deter weevils in rice and flour.
