Bees need two fundamental things from plants, pollen, for protein food and nectar, for carbohydrate food. Many flowering plants, both commercial and wild depend on bees for pollination– the process of transfer of pollen from the male to the female part of the flower. In return for this service many plants produce excess pollen and/or nectar as a reward.
