Widely used as a medicine by native Americans before white settlers produces a preparation of Echinacea called Meyers Blood Purifier. Commercial production began in Germany in the 1930’s and then into Switzerland in the 1950’s. There are now many over the counter products, but the plant is still grown widely grown by gardeners simply for its beauty.
