Description

  • Popular culinary herb
  • Easy to grow
  • Prefers light shade
  • Versatile herb

Chervil is symbolically linked to Lent, but was probably a herb used as a spring tonic long before Christianity for its blood cleansing and restorative properties after traditional winter fare.

Plant Care

  • Height: 30-60cm
  • Type: Hardy
  • Aspect: Sun/shade
  • Soil: Any/alkaline
  • Flower colour: White
  • Flowering period: May - August

A delicate elegant spring herb, chervil is easy to grow and prefers the cooler weather earlier and later in the year. It grows much better in light shade away from the direct heat of the sun and when the weather really warms up in July  it produces thick flowering stems at the expense of the leaves. As a hardy annual, once flowering it won't produce more leaves, but the seeds can be harvested once ripe and sown the following spring.
